Technology × Nursing: Pioneering the Future— Outreach Open Campus Held at Hakui High School

投稿日:

On July 31, 2025, Ishikawa Prefectural Hakui High School hosted an “Outreach Open Campus” led by the Department of Well-being Nursing at Ishikawa Prefectural Nursing University (coordinated by Prof. Masaru Matsumoto and Dr. Daijiro Haba). The aim of this event was to introduce high school students to the diverse possibilities and appeal of modern nursing through lectures and hands-on learning.

The lecture began with key questions such as “What is nursing?” and “Why should nurses learn about technology?” It addressed pressing societal challenges—such as population aging, disaster response, remote nursing, information literacy, and the integration of AI and IoT—and explored how nursing can offer solutions. The concept of developing welfare equipment through industry-academia collaboration and the proactive mindset of “If it doesn’t exist, create it” left a strong impression on the students.

In the hands-on session, students had the opportunity to interact directly with cutting-edge assistive technologies including VR, portable ultrasound, robotic mattresses, and robotic chairs. They experienced firsthand that nursing is not only about “care,” but also a science capable of transforming society.

Student feedback (excerpts):

  • “I was surprised by the integration of technology into nursing.”
  • “Learning about AI and remote nursing helped clarify my career goals.”
  • “The phrase ‘If it doesn’t exist, create it’ really encouraged me.”
  • “After experiencing VR and sensing technologies from the university, I’m even more eager to apply.”

According to a post-event survey, 94% of participants said the experience “increased their motivation to study nursing,” demonstrating that the program had a meaningful impact on helping students envision their futures.

Ishikawa Prefectural Nursing University will continue to offer exploratory learning opportunities in collaboration with the community, nurturing the next generation of nursing professionals through a well-being-centered approach.
